Landmarks Society of Greater Utica Award
11/18/2011 3:35:00 PM by Tom Farley

Bonacci Architects work was recognized by the Landmarks Society of Greater Utica at their annual meeting.

David and Regina Bonacci were presented with an Award of Merit for the preservation and renovation of the 251-253 Bleecker St. property in downtown Utica. The former mid 1800's mercantile building was slated for demolition in 2007 for surface parking, but thanks to their efforts the building is now a signature example of urban redevelopment.

The building now serves as an excellent mixed use property that includes Bonacci Architect's Utica office as well as David and Regina's own loft residence. The project demonstrates the positive impact of finding new uses for older buildings, and serves as a poignant example of an alternative to senseless demolition of salvageable historic assets.

We have finally moved into our new Utica office at 110 Fulton Street and we love it! We were instrumental in saving this former mercantile structure dating back to the 1800s when the Erie Canal meandered through the City directly behind our building. We have transformed this formerly vacant structure into a vibrant mixed-use building with professional offices and a modern loft apartment. Come visit us! read more...
