Bonacci Architects has completed design for several phases of historic preservation/restoration at this landmark building, listed on both the National and State registries of Historic Structures. Initial pre-design services included the preparation of a comprehensive building condition survey, project identification/prioritization and development of a phased renovation plan.

Phase l. Phase l work included the restoration f limestone and brick masonry comprising more that 80% of the exterior skin of the Main Terminal Building.

Phase ll. Phase ll work included restoration of all Main Terminal Building canopies. also included was exterior masonry restoration, canopy restoration and roof replacement of 40% of the REA Wing.

Phase lll. Phase lll work included rehabilitation of skylight penthouses, restoration and repainting of Main Terminal and Vestibule ceilings, roof replacement over the main vaulted ceiling and related masonry restoration. Exterior alteration work included the addition of handrails at main stairwells, reconfiguration of access to the Women's Toilet facilities, configuration of an emergency generator room within the REA wing, replacement of exterior and interior vestibule doors/hardware, and the provision of custom made chandeliers and information kiosks in the main terminal space. Other interior improvements included the provision of building graphic systems and rehabilitation of marble wall cladding and terrazzo floors.
